REI CoOp Blog

Responsibilities: Wireframing/Mockups, CSS Editing, Functionality, Guidelines, Redlines, Branding

A content hub for REI experts to share their knowledge with the rest of the outdoors community.
On this project I have been responsible for designing comps for client reviews, wire-framing new content hubs as they became necessary, re-coding existing CSS to reflect updates to brand guidelines, researching/implementing plug-ins, creating step-by-step guidelines for content creators, creating content templates for easier use by REI experts, and designing new page templates as they were requested. All wireframes/designs had desktop and mobile versions which usually included redlines for the developer.

CoOp Films Video Portal

The client came to us with the need for a video portal on the existing blog, after hearing their considerations I created multiple wireframe iterations until we reached a consensus on the best way to move forward. Mobile versions of all of the wireframes were also created so the developer would have guidelines on how to program responsiveness. The main ask was that it fit into the current blog template and didn’t essentially feel like a separate microsite/video blog. Overall the portal was very simplified and did not create a break in style or consistency for the user browsing the site.

Science of Suspension Illustrations

The client needed these illustrations to support a blog article on the different types of suspension set-ups available for mountain biking. After a few phone sessions with the biking writers trying to figure out how to illustrate the variable compression ability and how it worked on the inside of the suspension, this is what I came up with. Not a regular ask from the client, but there was a need and I decided to give it a shot and they liked what I came up with.

New Page Wireframes and Specs

As the blog grew, the need for more functionality and different pages also grew. The examples above are just two samples of some of the page templating that was needed. The asks ranged from Weekly News templates, tabbed sectioning of articles for length issues, and sometimes just redlining and readjusting pages that already existed and needed tweaking.
